آل عمران · Family of Imran · verse 167 of 200
وَلِيَعْلَمَ الَّذِينَ نَافَقُوا وَقِيلَ لَهُمْ تَعَالَوْا قَاتِلُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَوِ ادْفَعُوا قَالُوا لَوْ نَعْلَمُ قِتَالًا لَاتَّبَعْنَاكُمْ هُمْ لِلْكُفْرِ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَقْرَبُ مِنْهُمْ لِلْإِيمَانِ يَقُولُونَ بِأَفْوَاهِهِمْ مَا لَيْسَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَكْتُمُونَ
WaliyaAAlama allatheena nafaqoo waqeela lahum taAAalaw qatiloo fee sabeeli Allahi awi idfaAAoo qaloo law naAAlamu qitalan laittabaAAnakum hum lilkufri yawmaithin aqrabu minhum lileemani yaqooloona biafwahihim ma laysa fee quloobihim waAllahu aAAlamu bima yaktumoona

Hilali & KhanAnd that He might test the hypocrites, it was said to them: "Come, fight in the way of Allah or defend yourselves." They said: "Had we known that fighting will take place, we would certainly have followed you." They were that day, nearer to disbelief than to faith, saying with their mouths what was not in their hearts. And Allah has full knowledge of what they conceal.

Ahsan ul Bayan (Junagarhi)اور منافقوں کو بھی معلوم کر لے جن سے کہا گیا کہ آؤ اللہ کی راه میں جہاد کرو، یا کافروں کو ہٹاو، ٴ تو وه کہنے لگے کہ اگر ہم لڑائی جانتے ہوتے تو ضرور ساتھ دیتے، وه اس دن بہ نسبت ایمان کے کفر سے بہت قریب تھے، اپنے منھ سے وه باتیں بناتے ہیں جو ان کے دلوں میں نہیں، اور اللہ تعالیٰ خوب جانتا ہے جسے وه چھپاتے ہیں
